This is how to proceed to fix that:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;pre&gt;&lt;code&gt;$ locate libreadline
/usr/lib/libreadline.dylib
/usr/local/lib/libreadline.5.2.dylib
/usr/local/lib/libreadline.5.dylib
/usr/local/lib/libreadline.a
/usr/local/lib/libreadline.dylib

$ ruby --version
ruby 1.8.6 (2008-08-11 patchlevel 287) [universal-darwin9.0]
